Who needs Special Education?

Any child or young person who faces difficulties in learning due to disabilities or otherwise and therefore finds it harder for him or her to pick things up and learn in comparison to most other young people or children of the same age may gain from Special Education.

Children or young people with neurodevelopmental disorders like autism, hearing loss,learning disabilities, emotional disorders, behavioral disorders like ADD and ADHD, communication disorders and learning disabilities are mostly in need of special education. Children with physical disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Frederich’s Ataxia, spinal Bifidaand Brittle Bone Disease may also benefit much from special education. Some children also have developmental disabilities like Down syndrome and more may also need special or additional care such as varied approach to teaching, a teaching area that is specifically adapted to the special needs, the use of technology or a resource room of sorts. Autistic children need special education too, as they need a teacher or help who has enough experience in communicating with such special needs children with Autism, Down Syndrome or the likes.

Therefore any child with the following difficulties might benefit from Special Education:
1. Learning Difficulties including the acquisition of basic skills in early years at home, school or college.
2. Difficulty in specific learning like writing, reading, number work or information understanding.
3. Emotional, mental health or social difficulties like making friends or relating to adults or any other difficulty in communicating with the environment
4. Physical or sensory difficulties such as visual impairment, hearing impairment, or physical difficulties
5. Communication difficulties in expressing self or in understanding what others have to say.
6. Health or Medical conditions affect a child’s normal progress and it may also involve treatment that affects his/her education.
